Year 1 - Home learning for Friday 27th March 2020
Maths- Today's maths job is learning about measuring capacity. Capacity – is how much it will hold. Parents/carers please encourage children to use empty, full, more and less – mathematical language please to support their understanding.
Please go to this link and watch the video under the heading of Lesson 5: measure capacity: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/
Then, can you complete the worksheet attached if you are able to or write in your yellow workbook the numbered question and the answer.
Extension: With adult support, experiment capacity and volume using different sized cups as well as different amounts. Discuss shapes of bottles and think about why some may hold more water/contents than others/ See what you find and record in your yellow workbook.
Challenge: Log on to your account on ‘Purple Mash’. Click on the red ‘2Do’ icon and then click start to the following activity: More than, less than.
(please make sure your device that you are using has Adobe Flash Player downloaded or on it as it will not work otherwise).
Writing – For today’s task could you draw a picture of something you have enjoyed doing this week and then write a sentence or paragraph about your picture?
Phonics - Today's sound is 'aw' – yawn at dawn. Can you repeat that?
Remember it is a split diagraph – they’ve been too chatty so the teacher thought they needed to split and have a break. Write the sound in your yellow books.
What words can you think of with the sound in? E.g. yawn, dawn, crawl, saw, etc. Write these in your yellow books.
Challenge: Can you write a sentence in your yellow books?
Please remember the writing checks: capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and reading it aloud 3 times to make sure it makes sense.
